While General Douglas McArthur was commander of U.S. Army Forces in the Far East during World War II, the American-occupied Philippines was invaded by Japan. Defense was futile, and on February 22, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered General MacArthur to leave the Philippines. Once in Australia, MacArthur gave a famous speech in which he said, “I shall return.” On October 20, 1944, MacArthur made good on his promise when he waded ashore with his troops on the island of Leyte. Before long, liberation came to the Philippines.
Hint

Jesus promised that He would return to this world, gather His waiting people, and take them to be with Him in heaven!
Hint

The Bible portrays the return of Jesus in the most hopeful terms. One day, the trials and disappointments of this world will be gone forever. Jesus’ return is truly the blessed hope of the world.
Hint

Job, in the frst book of the Bible to be written, looked with hope toward the return of Jesus to this world. Every author in the New Testament mentions the Second Coming of Jesus, and Jesus Himself referred to His return numerous times. (Matthew 24:30 and Matthew 26:64 are two examples.)
Hint

The sin and sadness of life will all be banished when Jesus returns! The last funeral service will have been held, no longer will people get sick and die, and no more tears will be shed. Truly, the Second Coming of Jesus is the “blessed hope”!
When will Jesus come back to this world?

Of that day and hour ________________ knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
Hint

Throughout the years, many people have predicted when Jesus would return to the earth—but they have all been wrong! No one knows the day or the hour of Jesus’ return.
Is it possible to know when Jesus’ return is near?

Learn this parable from the fg tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the _____________!
Hint

While it isn’t possible to know exactly when Jesus is going to return to this planet, it is possible to know—based on the signs He gave—when His return is near. [See It Is Written Bible Study Guide #2, “Seeing the Signs.”]
Hint

The return of Jesus will be a literal event. Jesus Himself will personally return to this world.
Hint

The return of Jesus will be a visible event. People all over the world will see Jesus return to the world.
Hint

We can only imagine what it will sound like when Jesus returns to earth accompanied by the angels of heaven. (Matthew 16:27) The Second Coming of Jesus will be an event that people will hear.
What will the return of Jesus look like?

Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent; a %BLANK% shall devour before Him, and it shall be very %BLANK% all around Him.
Hint

The return of Jesus will undoubtedly be a glorious event!
Hint

When Jesus returns, the frst resurrection takes place, when the dead in Christ shall rise to be with Jesus forever. The dreamless sleep of death will come to an end, and the sleeping saints of God will rise to be with Him and to die no more. [For more information about the subject of death, see It Is Written Bible Study Guide #10, “The Mystery of Death.”]
Hint

When Jesus returns, believers in Jesus will receive immortal, eternal bodies. The righteous at Jesus’ return will never again endure physical distress. Aches and pains will be gone forever, as God gives them new bodies in which they will live eternally!
Hint

Comparing His return with the food that covered the earth in the days of Noah, Jesus warned that indifference would affect the world. Most people will be carrying on with their daily lives, apathetic toward spiritual realities.
Hint

Jesus helps us understand the meaning of this passage by comparing events at His return with what took place in the days of Noah. In Noah’s day, there were two groups of people: those who got on the ark and were saved, and those who did not get on the ark and were lost.
Jesus tells us that when He returns, circumstances on this planet will be as they were in Noah’s day. One group of people will be saved, and another will be lost. People in similar situations (“two men will be in the feld”) and with similar opportunities (“two women will be grinding at the mill”)—will meet with diferent fates. One will be saved, while another will be lost.
Hint

Jesus specifically stated that we should not believe that His return will be a secret event. If someone were to claim that Jesus had returned and was in a specific location, we should likewise reject that claim. Jesus’ return will not be a secret. Some people teach that the return of Jesus is going to be a secret event—that He will first return for the saved believers, and then return some time later for those who have become ready after having been given a second chance. Nowhere does the Bible talk of a secret Second Coming of Jesus, nor does it indicate that those who are not ready for the return of Jesus will be given another opportunity to be saved.
Hint

Before Jesus returns, Satan will work with great power to deceive as many people as he can. Paul wrote that Satan will work “with all power, signs, and lying wonders.” (2 Thessalonians 2:9) Recognizing that he only has a short time left in which to deceive the world, Satan works miracles calculated to destroy the faith of God’s people.
Hint

Jesus urges us to be ready for His return. Because we cannot know exactly when the return of Jesus will be, it is vitally important that we live in a state of constant readiness for the Second Coming. Peter warned that “scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.’” (2 Peter 3:3, 4) It is important to get ready for the Second Coming of Jesus, and stay ready!
Hint

By accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior, confessing your sins and living a life of surrender to God, you can have the assurance of everlasting life, and of being ready for Jesus at His return.

Are you willing to surrender your life to Jesus, invite Him into your heart and live by faith in Jesus in preparation for His return?
